Reading Community Carnival 2006

Instead of featuring the action on the main stage this years photo's show another side of the Reading Community Carnival party as we hit the road on the Mary Seacole float with our friends from Family Connection (less Master K who was dealing with stage business back in the park).

first things first ...load the truck with bins

this is no place for vinyl so the set is cd only business

dj mikey looks a bit disappointed that the generator can only handle 3 of the 6 amps he brought with him!

the bins get strapped down and they're ready to kick out some serious soca

hector selector gets to work with the decorations

time for a quick sound check and we're ready to go

the floats head down the tilehurst road for the first stage of the procession route

and it wasn't long before we were heading down the oxford road

the dancers following the truck were slowly growing in numbers

hector looks back to see if the dancers are enjoying the tunes being played

he then checks the onlookers are liking the vibes too

the dancers enjoy themselves as the number of onlookers keeps growing

hector selector and diamond finger hard at work

the oxford road was ram with floats and people

hector selector takes to the control tower

while diamond finger is back on mic duty

as we turn into grovelands road the oxford road still has floats as far as the eye can see

dj mikey found some friends to join in the party

even a short shower couldn't dampen the dancers spirit

and before we knew it we're back at prospect park and the sun is breaking through again

diamond finger steadies the ship as we get off road

while dj mikey and friends say hi to the crowd

the dancers give all the onlookers a wave

diamond and hector keep the float rocking till the end

hector waves bye as the float reaches the car park

the dancers come to the end of their long journey

time to figure out how to get out of that great costume

as usual the stage sounded heavy as bajan artist magnet man headlined the many acts
