BBC Radio Berkshire presenter Louise Chandler

RingTheAlarm.com was recently very pleased to hear that BBC Radio Berkshire now has a radio show dedicated to Berkshire's Caribbean community, interested to find out more we linked up with the shows producer and presenter Louise Chandler...

Greetings Louise, can you tell us about your new show?

The show started a week before Reading Community Carnival in August 2006. My target audience is from 30’s upwards and basically anyone who loves reggae, soca, calypso and lover’s rock!  Its on BBC Radio Berkshire  - you can tune in around the county on 104.1, 104.4, 95.4, 94.6FM at 9 o’clock on Sunday

So is this your first radio show?

I’ve worked in radio since 1997 and have been a presenter, producer and also a journalist so I’ve worked in different environments and for different stations.  I was at 1Xtra in 2002 and I worked on the Rampage show as a Broadcast assistant. This was work experience whilst I was a student so I was only there for a week but it taught me a lot and was a lot of fun!

What's in store for us reggae fans?

I play a wide range of music that covers reggae, lovers rock, calypso, soca, soul and RnB. I also play old and new versions of these genres so hopefully there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Are you from the Reading area?

Yes, I’m definitely a local girl! I was born at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, grew up off the Oxford Road and went to Meadway School!

Are you a reggae fan yourself?

Yes, I grew with listening to Aswad, Bob Marley and Maxi Priest as well as other genre’s of music! However, doing this show has allowed me to re-establish my love for reggae music and it reminds me why its so fantastic! Last year I had the honour and privilege of going to the Jamaican High Commission in London to interview the ‘Cool Ruler’ Gregory Isaacs because a box set of his work was released – it was a fabulous night and the interview was interesting!

Who's you favourite reggae artist or band?

Its difficult to choose but my favourite reggae artist would have to be Bob Marley – I have early memories of watching the music video for ‘Waiting in Vain’ and dancing to it!

What other bands or genres are you into?

I listen to all types of music – dance, hip hop, RnB, soul, dancehall, rock, indie, pop, soca, calypso and the list goes on …….

Are you're looking to feature more info about the local reggae scene in your show?

Yes of course, if its happening then let me know, I’ll be more than happy to promote events and let the whole of Berkshire know what’s happening on our turf!

How can people get in touch with you?
