If you attend reggae dances in Reading you may be fooled into thinking that Rockers 4x4 (aka Roots Rockers) is a new sound, in fact the history of Roots Rockers goes back a number of years. Roots Rockers was originaly created by MC Naptali in the early 90's as a show for Sky Radio in London, the show ran for 3 years and proved to be extremely popular, not just because of the music that was being played but also because the show contained sections relating to black history and culture.

Following the success of the show on Sky Radio MC Naptali left for the Caribbean island of St. Vincent where he took the show with him performing on local radio, which was as big a success as it had been in London, and also taking the show on the road performing all over the island.

After a year in St. Vincent Naptali returned to the UK and it was then that Roots Rockers became the sound system it is today. Although Roots Rockers has been a sound for many years now the majority of dances it has been involved in have been down the M4 in the Bristol and Swindon area's, it has only been in the last couple of years that Roots Rockers has started playing regular sessions in Reading, these include a number of dances held at the Boxing Club in Chatham Street and some very successful nights at Chumleys alongside the likes of Chris Goldfinger from Radio 1.  The Roots Rockers line up varies but MC Naptali is ever present and it's Naptali's way to 'Mix and Blend' the style and pace of the music to ensure that everyone has a good time whatever their preference.
